Eco Washcloths
I’ve been wanting to try and be more eco friendly around the house so I had a think about where I could make some easy initial changes. The Kitchen seemed like the best place to start as we use so much kitchen roll clearing up simple things and most of the cloths we already have are synthetic microfibre cloths.
I’ve chosen the simplest start I could find in my stash (also trying to save for a house!), a free pattern from Stitch and Story for some cotton wash cloths (link here).

You can see I half-heartedly started this when the yarn first arrived about 2 months ago, Each of the 3 cloths are done in a different stitch and they’re quite small so it should be varied enough and quick enough to stop me getting bored. They are also simple enough that I should be able to pick up the odd row while the boys are up and about in the day 🙂

Well here I am about 2 hours later (I kind of decided to finish the last 2 episodes of Sweet Tooth while stitching 😁, Season 2 can’t come quick enough for me!), not bad for someone who hasn’t picked up a crochet hook properly in about 6 months. I’d really like to finish the first cloth tomorrow but life with 2 wee ones is unpredictable, fingers crossed 🙂
So after doing a couple of double bedtimes due to Will’s work and a golf outing I decided to take an evening to myself. I fancied wandering down to the local café/bar, getting a glass of wine and some snacks and crocheting the evening away listening to one of my favourite youtubers: Leo Moracchioli (Frogleap Studios). Nothing like a glass of red and a metal cover of Dance Monkey 🙂
Well, as you probably guessed, one glass turned into three with a stop off at the live music even going on in my village 😁.

I’ve finished the first one! The cloth turned out great, tight textured fabric, really robust weave and the contrast looks good. I’ve added a loop (video tutorial for the loop here) on one corner so I can hang it on the rack above my sink to dry 🙂

Next cloth is done in waffle stitch which I’ve never tried before so here goes…

So as usual Kayle needs to be involved in every crochet project, my banner gallery is going to be huge by the end of this 😂. So far waffle stitch is nice and simple, the work is growing faster than the last cloth so I’m hoping to finish this one over 2 days.

Spoke too soon, had a major ball malfunction and had to spend half an hour untangling and winding it all back up 🤪

Going to finish here for today, you know it’s time to go to bed when you’re about to re-do the same row for the third time cus you’ve missed a chain somewhere. Hope to catch up tomorrow 🙂
Well, that was so much quicker than the first one! I’m loving the texture and the mustard edging but I must admit I really want to start something new (there’s only so many straight rows you can do before getting bored…), well one more cloth then on to something a little different 🙂

Last cloth! I’ve really enjoyed making these, I’ll add an update once they’ve been used and washed a few times 🙂
